Fountain Valley is great mid-size city located in Orange County, California. Fountain Valley is bordered by the Santa Ana River on the east, Costa Mesa on the southeast, Santa Ana on the northeast, Westminster and Garden Grove on the north and Huntington Beach on the south and west. The city encompasses nine square miles and has a population of approximately 55,000 people. Fountain Valley was incorporated in 1957, prior to this it was known as Talbert or Gospel Swamps. Fountain Valley was chosen as the name because of its very high water table. The city motto is “A Nice Place to Live.”
With its beautiful year round weather, Fountain Valley has the perfect climate to participate in the many outdoor activities the area has to offer. The center of Fountain Valley’s outdoor activity is the Mile Square Regional Park. This 640 acre park has two lakes, three 18-hole golf courses, several playing fields, an archery range, picnicking areas and an urban nature area. The urban nature area is a 20 acre garden dedicated to California native plants. The park’s recreation center has 55 acres filled with tennis courts, racquetball courts and a full sized basketball court. The rec center is home to the Kingston Boys and Girls Club, a community center and senior center. Additionally, there are another 20 parks scattered throughout the city.
Uniquely, Fountain Valley is served by four different school districts; Fountain Valley School District, Garden Grove Unified School District, Huntington Beach Union High School District and Ocean View School District. The Fountain Valley School District has nine elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools. There is also one kindergarten through 12th grade school and two kindergarten through 8th grade schools. Huntington Beach Union High School District has two high schools that Fountain Valley students attend Fountain Valley High School and Valley Vista High School. Garden Grove Unified School District has one high school that Fountain View students attend, Los Amigos High School and three elementary schools, including the blue ribbon award winner Allen Elementary School. Fountain Valley students attend the Vista View Middle School, in the Ocean View School District. Three colleges call Fountain Valley home: Coastline Community College, Orange Coast College and Golden West College.
